ElectroMechanical OptoAcousticOrchestra Discarded, broken and endangered musical instruments are saved from their disposal, modified into self-playing, musical automats and joined-up to form an electromechanical, audiovisual orchestra. This open series of musical sculptures digs through the piles of historical and ahistorical instruments, reinventing the forgotten and the unused. In our not-yet-tradition of media/an/archaeological strategies, we combine the respect for the old with the curiosity for the new, transforming the known into the unknown and vice versa. With kinetic manipulations, light-, sound- and motion-sensors, the instruments play themselves, each other and are played contactless by the changing conditions of their environment, creating everchanging soundscapes of intention and coincidence.
Singular, individualised music-machines are the elements of a walkable, optoacoustic network inviting the visitor to become player and instrument himself and take part in an open-ended, experimental arrangement.
